Espana Guitars On eBay

Espana guitars on eBay are often listed as a Hagstrom derived guitar. This is probably due to their distribution channel that Hagstrom operated in Europe. Hagstrom sold guitars for a long while before they made guitars. The Espana range of guitars was a brand name created for Buegeleisen & Jacobson. It appears that Karl Erik Hagstrom gave Buegeleisen & Jacobson the brand name Espana when he first sold the idea to them to compete with the Hershman Goya guitars. A company called Bjarton manufactured the guitars for some time, but unfortunately all Bjarton information has been lost, it is difficult to be sure about this. Then B&J moved production of the Espana guitars to the Finnish manufacturer Landola.

Landola are still in business and very respected and it is thought that they made the better versions of the Espana. I have little information on the origins or the history of Espana guitars on eBay beyond a possible connection to Scandinavia. Some have noted a Hagstrom Sticker label inside saying Hagstrom Oslo and the Espana headstock may be similar to Hagstroms. Landola guitars were made in Finland and their factory was located in Jakobstad on the west coast of Finland. You can usually tell a Landola acoustic model by a crown logo inlaid somewhere in the body or headstock.

Hagstrom Guitars On eBay

For the vintage guitar collector, Hagstrom guitars on eBay are considered to be one of the highest quality, most roadworthy and visually appealing guitars. Ever since 1983 when original production stopped, Hagstroms have been sought after collector items. With their unique finish and quality reputation, both collectors and guitarists keep a watch on auctions of Hagstrom guitars on eBay.

Hagström was founded by Albin Hagström in Älvdalen, Dalecarlia, Sweden in 1925. Initially Firma Albin Hagström imported accordions from Germany and Italy. They started manufacturing accordions in 1932. In 1958, Hagström started manufacturing electric guitars and amplifiers. Hagstrom guitars expanded their model line to include hollow body guitars like the Viking and the Jimmy. They were also first to build a guitar and keyboard hybrid guitar - the Swede Patch 2000.

The design of these early guitars was heavily influenced by their accordions and had a very individual look and feel. The early Hagstrom Deluxe solid body guitars featured a distinctive sparkle and pearloid celluloid finish like that previously used on their line of accordions.

In 1961 the first line of Hagstrom basses became available to the public. This came to include the groundbreaking 8 string bass. Production ended for Swedish-made Hagstroms in 1983, due to their inability to keep up with the competition who made guitars using cheaper labour in Asia . Hagstrom made some Japanese prototypes, however, they were unsatisfied with the workmanship and preferred to close the company rather than cheapen the brand. In 2004 the Hagström brand was resurrected and they are now again in production in China.
